Jersey Biodiversity Centre
Emily Wagdin is an island conservationist and educator working to connect people with nature. She joined the Jersey Biodiversity Centre, a local charity serving as the biological records centre for Jersey and its territorial waters, as Outreach, Training and Communications Officer in 2024 after working as a conservationist on Ascension Island. Throughout the year, Emily runs training and events, enabling people of all ages and backgrounds to learn about Jersey's unique biodiversity, get involved in citizen science monitoring schemes, and boost the profile of the Jersey Biodiversity Centre.
The Jersey Biodiversity Centre manages a continually expanding database of biological records that facilitates effective management and sharing of information. The data are collated from various sources, including citizen scientists, professional ecologists, researchers, students, and amateur wildlife enthusiasts. The data serves as an essential resource, providing the evidence base that underpins biodiversity decision-making for land and marine management, development planning, and local legislation in Jersey.
