Kim Koester
Action for Wildlife Jersey
My name is Kim. I have enjoyed wildlife from an early age. Almost all wildlife is of interest to me, but moths have now become a bit of an obsession. It is the only wildlife that will come to you without you going out of your way to find it.
About 5 years ago I acquired a moth trap with a blue/black light and for two years worked (with Alli Singleton) on getting to grips with macro (large) moths. I was gifted a moth trap with a MV light and the catches really increased in number. The last couple of years we have concentrated on micro (small to very small) moths. We enjoy trapping at various locations around the island really early in the morning when you can appreciate the peace and listen to bird song and insects buzzing around. We record all our records with Jersey Biodiversity Centre. I love sharing my knowledge with people (please note I am not an expert) and encouraging children not to be frightened of these lovely fascinating pollinators, which most people think are 'small and brown', when nothing could be further from the truth.
